Your role and responsibilities
As Assistant Director, you will lead the teams in Education and Learning. This is an important post within the CYP leadership team with lead responsibility for key aspects of the council's education strategy, statutory duties, and ambition for children and young people's achievement.
You will have overarching responsibility for:
* Early Years and Childcare
* School Infrastructure and Place Planning
* School Admissions
* Free School Meals
* School Travel Policy and Travel Budget Suffolk Schools Forum
* School Improvement (directly in the maintained sector and improvement across the publicly funded education sector through engagement with MAT leaders and the DfE)
* School Organisation Support
* Elective Home Education
* The County Music Service
* The Virtual School
* The School Attendance Service
In addition, you will support the council's SEND and Inclusion ambitions through engagement with school and setting leaders. You will work closely with senior staff across the council, education leaders across the county, cabinet members, county councillors, and senior staff at the Department for Education and Ofsted.
You will need
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* Experience as a leader in schools or in an education setting
* Significant experience at a senior level in local authority education services
* Experience of working directly with county councillors on education matters
* Familiarity with both the DfE Regions Group and the Regional Senior HMI and their responsibilities
* Your work and experience to date will give you credibility with headteachers, school governors, multi-academy trust leaders, and wider stakeholders in education.
