Joining a small team that handles a wide variety of high-quality international work, this role guarantees a level of exposure that is simply unattainable for an associate at this level in a large onshore firm. You will work closely with Partners and deal directly with clients, advising on the full gamut of corporate matters including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity, and restructurings. It is fast-moving and complex work that will at times require you to juggle competing demands. If you want to practice at the highest level but find the more rigid structures of a large corporate team restrictive, you will likely thrive in this environment.
British Virgin Islands
For some, the BVI is the pick of the Caribbean. A mountainous, rain forested interior surrounded by picture-postcard bays, it is probably not far from the idyllic image that might cross your mind when you ponder whether there is ‘more to life’. It’s not for everyone. You will need to be comfortable with a slower pace, you will see its remoteness as a gift rather than an inconvenience, and you will be the sort of person who gets more out of sailing, diving, or relaxing on the beach than you do from the buzz of city life. If that’s you, you will love it here. Not to mention that the work, much of it emanating out of China/Asia, is some of the most interesting and challenging in the sector.
Process
Interviews will take place by videoconference with start dates typically around 4-6 months later. Our clients provide comprehensive assistance with visas and relocation, including temporary accommodation on arrival.
Package
Attractive salary with a low tax-rate (c8%). Comprehensive benefits, bonus, and relocation package (flights + temporary accommodation on arrival + expenses allowance).
Requirements
To secure a work permit in the BVI you will need to be admitted as a Solicitor or Barrister in the UK. This role is likely to suit someone with around 1-4 years’ PQE (although all associates with an appropriate skillset are encouraged to apply). You will need experience of high-value corporate work from a good UK or equivalent law firm.
