Job summary Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Hull City Council operate a joint mortuary and bereavement service providing mortuary and post-mortem facilities for the county of East Yorkshire. It is run across two sites at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital. We are looking to recruit 2 support staff to assist in the delivery of the service. They provide support to qualified and trainee staff, undertaking front of house duties including admission and release of the deceased, assist with viewings and handle calls from service users and public offering support and advice as required. There are 2 posts - 1 x 1.0WTE and 1 x 16 hours a week (0.43WTE) The may be an opportunity to progress to Band 4 Trainee Anatomical Pathology Technician upon completion of the relevant competencies and training. The trainee would need to undertake additional qualifications to become a qualified APT - currently delivered via an apprenticeship route. This would require them to undertake studies in their own time as well as in the workplace. Candidates can remain in the Band 3 role if they prefer but would have the opportunity to apply for trainee posts to progress. Main duties of the job The post holder will perform a wide range of tasks to support the Mortuary and Bereavement Services in the provision and delivery of an efficient and effective Mortuary & Bereavement service. Duties will include: Admission and release of deceased patients, Maintaining and updating Eden patient database, Accurately recording deaths on both Lorenzo and NHS spine, Assist in preparation and undertaking viewings and formal identifications when required, Cleaning duties ensuring transitional areas are maintained and disinfected as required, Assist with transportation & collection of deceased when required, Ensure compliance with departmental Standard operational procedures and Human Tissue Authority standards. Removal of implantable devices and reconstruction when required. Administrative duties will be a significant part of the role including documenting information in patient files, updating of computer systems and filing. You will be expected to provide cover across sites as and when required. There may be a requirement to work additional hours to cover Annual leave and sickness when necessary and it involves lone working when at satellite site. You must have excellent organisation and time management skills and the ability to adapt rapidly to ever changing workloads Good communication skills are essential for the role.
