Introducing an exciting opportunity to join the Building Surveying team as a Architectural Technologist/CAD Technician.
Job Summary
As an Architectural Technologist or CAD Technician, you will specialise in the application of building science and technology to construction projects. You are recognised as having specialist skills enabling you to work within a managed design process and develop technical knowledge and expertise to provide innovative solutions. You will also recognise the significance of the post construction aspects of the project.
Responsibilities
Through all stages of a project, you will be part of a Design Team in conjunction with a Lead Designer and your role will include:
Project Inception
• Reviewing the needs of clients and users and agreeing the project brief.
• Recognise the significance of the design stage and how it underpins the construction project.
• Assist in evaluating and advising upon environmental and regulatory legal requirements affecting the project and obtaining initial approvals.
• Producing Feasibility Studies with the design team.
• Assessing survey requirements and producing surveys.
Project Planning
• Contributing to project briefs and design programmes.
• Liaising with and producing documentation for Statutory Approval authorities.
Design Process
• Preparing and presenting design proposals using CAD techniques and traditional methods.
• Working within a team to produce the detailed design process and co-ordinating detailed design information.
• Developing the project design, researching problems and producing, developing and advising upon innovative solutions.
• Producing, analysing and advising upon specification, materials selections and detailed design solutions in relation to performance and production criteria.
• Producing, managing, controlling and integrating design and production information.
Contract Management
• Ensuring continual compliance with design, statutory and professional requirements.
• Programming schedules and undertaking stage inspection with other members of the design team.
• Gaining feedback from and de-briefing client and user.
• Appraisal of building performance in use and producing, developing and maintaining maintenance management information systems.
• Evaluating upon refurbishment, repair, reuse, recycling and deconstruction of buildings.
Professional Practice
• Assist design team in providing professional guidance and decision making to clients, users and design/construction teams.
• Undertaking structured Continuing Professional Development.
CAD Duties
• To prepare and compile CAD files to surveyor’s requirements, including plans, sections, details and all associated information in accordance with the Company CAD manuals, BS1192, PAS 1192-2 etc.
• Be expected to develop individual skills within the parameters of the Group CAD software, including 3D visualisations as required.
• To file all CAD related information in accordance with the Company CAD/BIM manuals.
• To issue drawings as requested by Building Surveyors/Project Managers.
• To be able to work under own initiative within a multi-discipline environment, and to manage a variable and changeable workload.
• To be able to plan workload and ensure information is produced within parameters set out by the Project Lead.
• To maintain and develop CAD library of standard information required for all projects including, CAD block, standard details etc.
• To assist with updating and maintaining quality control and CAD/BIM standards to the Building Surveying drawing office manager’s requirements.
General
• Will report to the designated Line Manager on a weekly basis, as to resource availability, progress of projects.
• To manage the flow of workload within the CAD team and assist in the management of available resource for the preparation and delivery of CAD deliverables, document control and quality checking of all information.
• Working to deadlines & Fee scales determined by others.
• Able to use MS Word, Excel, Project and NBS specification manager to aid the management and administration of projects.
• Any other duties reasonably required of the post-holder following consultation.
Skills & Experience
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in AutoCAD in building fabric sector.
* Experience in CAD capability in a recognised Industry Standard Format including 3D graphics and presentation relevant basic software (training will be given as required).
* The ability to work under own initiative, and to work under pressure.
* The ability to follow instructions and to direct others.
* Understanding of building fabric design and principles.
* Autodesk AutoCAD competency.
* A positive working attitude with good communication skills and flexibility in a dynamic role within an established Building Surveying team.
* Commercial awareness and a flexible attitude to both the type of work undertaken and the level of responsibility accepted.
