Job Title: Local Plan Manager Up to £57,792 [pay award pending]
Derby has a City Centre Vision and City Centre Design guide that has coordinated growth and investment which in turn stimulated emerging development masterplans at key growth sites. We are seeing an explosion of activity in Derby and to coordinate this and our emerging Local Plan we require a Local Plan Manager to focus this drive. We are looking for an experienced professional to lead on delivering the new Local Plan for the City.
The Opportunity: Derby is a compact City where our growth requires coordination and partnership with our neighbours. The Local Plan Manager will knit the inward investment and growth with the strategic objectives of our neighbouring authorities. Partnership, diplomacy, and a willingness to plan without boundaries in an overarching way is essential. The Local Plan Manager will provide leadership for the delivery of the City’s Local Plan working in a political arena; properly managed, this growth will bring formal challenges and rewards.
Looking internally, the post requires political insight, a management of often diverse aspirations, and a sound knowledge ensuring legal, financial, and statutory provisions are properly observed. Working with the Policy Team Leader, the post will drive forwards and shape the work of the policy team, six posts, into the adoption of the new Derby Local Plan.
As a key component of the senior management team, the LP manager together with the DC manager and Chief Planning officer form the top tier of management in the Planning service and help to maximise the use of resources in a collaborative, inclusive style of working, challenging cultural practice and ensuring new ways of working.
About You: To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have a degree in planning or other relevant discipline and be a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. In addition, you will have strong leadership skills and a wealth of professional knowledge and expertise.
What We Offer: You could be part of something brilliant by becoming a colleague at Derby City Council; in addition to making a difference to the lives of people across the city, you’ll also receive:
* Flexible work/life balance scheme
* Hybrid working
* Modern office environment
* Continued professional development opportunities & career conversations
* 27 days annual leave (rising to 32 days after 5 years' service), plus bank holidays
* Local Government Pension Scheme
* Team Derby Rewards – retail and leisure discounts
* Tusker Car Benefit Scheme
* Cycle2Work Scheme & free cycle training
* Employee Assistance Programmes & Support
* Access to our Equality Employee Networks – LGBTQ+, Disabled Employee Network & Carers and our Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic Employee Support Network
* Support for colleagues who are carers
Next Steps: The closing date for this vacancy is at midnight on 29 September. Any applications received after the closing date will not be accepted.
