Project Developer BESS
Our client is a leader in the development of large-scale energy projects, with a focus on battery storage since 2016 and a long history in solar farm development. Their mission is to build the energy infrastructure of the future, particularly in German-speaking regions, by integrating electricity and heat generation and storage, and supporting medium-sized utilities in their efforts to decarbonize power, heat networks, and water treatment systems.
To support their continued growth, they are expanding their Anglo-German team, based in Berlin, and are seeking several talented individuals to join them.
Your Role
We are looking for a proactive, entrepreneurial Project Manager/Project Developer who excels at learning quickly and solving challenges—or knows how to find the right people to help. Initially, your focus will be on developing battery storage projects, with the opportunity to expand into decarbonized heating and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
In this role, you will grow our project portfolio, primarily managing projects through the development phase to secure all necessary permits and achieve Ready-to-Build status. Over time, your exposure will expand across the full project lifecycle, from development to operations.
You’ll work closely with our business development and technical teams and manage relationships with external contractors and legal advisors. Your work will need to be methodical, well-documented, and thorough to meet the rigorous standards required by investors as projects near final investment decisions.
A key aspect of your role will be establishing and implementing effective processes and tracking systems to support the acceleration of our development activities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the development of battery storage and other clean energy projects, ensuring smooth progression through permitting to Ready-to-Build status.
2. Collaborate with business development and technical teams, and manage external contractors and advisors.
3. Develop and implement organizational processes and tracking systems to streamline project development.
4. Ensure thorough documentation of all project activities to meet investor requirements at later stages.
5. Contribute to expanding projects into operational phases for full lifecycle management.
What We’re Looking For:
1. Strong interdisciplinary understanding of the economic, financial, technical, planning, regulatory, and legal aspects of project development.
2. Excellent project management skills, including the ability to identify dependencies, anticipate challenges, manage the critical path, and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
3. Pragmatic and solution-oriented, with the ability to communicate effectively across different functions and secure buy-in from external stakeholders.
4. Some document drafting experience is a plus, but knowing when to bring in outside expertise is essential.
5. Fluency in both German and English is required.
