Job Summary
The Operation Support Engineer (OSE) reports to the Operations Manager and is accountable for supporting the region’s Rig Manager(s) in focusing on rig operations as well as the general condition of assigned rig(s) and associated equipment. Responsible for compliance with company standards and provides oversight to ensure all systems and equipment on the rigs are maintained to a high operational standard.
Actively promotes and complies with company safety programs and is responsible for ensuring adherence to company safety standards. Coordinates with other functions to establish shared goals which optimize the use of company resources.
Role as onshore operational responsible for lifting operations (Norway).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Ensures adherence to the company’s safety and maintenance policies and procedures.
2. Participates in both weekly and operational safety meetings.
3. Provides operational cover for Rig Manager(s) when required.
4. Supports the Technical Support Center (TSC) and Rig Manager(s) during periodical maintenance phases.
5. Ensures adherence to company procedures and policies.
6. Conducts root cause failure analysis and lessons learned process.
7. Ensures the preventive maintenance program is executed in compliance with company standards.
8. Ensures proper close-out process of all action items with proper follow-up.
9. Supports rig management in planning maintenance and capital budgets.
10. Supports Rig Manager(s) with the 5-year plan and technical requirement forecasting for assigned asset(s).
11. Coordinates & collaborates with project teams on shipyard work scope.
12. Supports Rig Manager(s) in ensuring general maintenance, operation, repair records, and documentation are accurate and up to date.
13. Assists with maintaining accurate rig equipment records.
14. Works closely with the Rig Manager around maintenance activities and evaluates potential impact to operations.
15. Supports management and tracking of equipment movement between rig, yards, and workshops.
16. Supports class, flag, and regulatory body requirements.
17. Assists with rig moves as required.
18. Accountable and responsible for the talent review and succession planning process in the maintenance departments on the rig.
19. Supports the review of rig maintenance performance against performance measures; establishes initiatives with the team to achieve goals and objectives.
20. Develops and implements mechanisms to achieve effective communication, coordination of effort, information flow, and learning with direct reports.
21. Acts as focal point with Enterprise of Competence and Valaris Engineering for MODUs operating on NSC - Norway.
22. Provides Technical and Operational support when requested by offshore Lifting Responsible Person - Norway.
23. Liaises with Enterprise of Competence and/or Valaris Engineering for high category lifts as required - Norway.
24. Liaises with Enterprise of Competence and/or Valaris Engineering for preparation/review of lift planning documents, technical integrity of lifting equipment and arrangements - Norway.
25. Conducts Operational Assurance Protocols for Lifting Operations per Valaris Audit Program – Norway.
Qualifications / Experience
1. Minimum of 5 years in a similar role in a business of similar size and complexity.
2. Bachelor Degree within relevant trade or equivalent education. Experience can compensate for lack of formal education.
3. Must have operational and/or maintenance experience in an offshore drilling operation.
4. Process-oriented and well organized.
5. NORSOK R-002 and R-003 Courses, Basic Lifting and Rigger Course (Module O-1.1, O-2.2 & O-3.2) – required for Norway.
6. Offshore survival and medical certificates as mandated by government regulations are required.
