Job overview
The pharmacy department is looking for a dependable, enthusiastic and motivated Senior Pharmacy Assistant to lead our Distribution & Medical Gas Team. The individual will help us deliver a high quality and efficient patient-focused service.
The ideal candidate will have good levels of stamina, be physically fit with good attention to detail, possess good communication skills, be flexible, committed, and a good team player.
Main duties of the job
* To lead the Pharmacy Distribution & Medical Gas assistants (approximately 12 assistants over various shift patterns) in the day-to-day operations at the Inpatient Pharmacy, ORC.
* To act as a role model and provide 1st line HR support (annual leave approval, appraisals, setting the rota, and initial sickness management) of the pharmacy assistants in the team.
* Support the MFT Pharmacy Medical Gas Manager and ORC Pharmacy Stores Manager in the provision and maintenance of an effective service across the ORC site.
* To undertake routine administrative functions within the Distribution & Medical Gas areas.
* To raise medical gas orders on the Pharmacy stock control system, oversee the correct receipt of these deliveries, issue stock to cost centres, and attend the ORC medical gas meetings.
* To participate in, and maintain the efficient purchasing of pharmaceutical products (Medical gases).
* To deputise for the Pharmacy Stores Manager in their absence, within the area of responsibility.
* To participate in the training of staff as required.
* To oversee and participate in the Medical Gas on-call rota.

Person specification
Qualifications
* NVQ2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent nationally recognised qualification
* GCSEs or equivalent (C or above) in Maths and English
* Manual Handling Key Trainer or Workplace First Aider training
Experience
* Evidence of Pharmacy Distribution & Medical Gases
* Evidence of leading a Team
* Evidence of experience in Procurement
* Experience of training and developing other staff.
* Experience of involvement in producing and evaluating SOPs.
Knowledge
* Demonstrates an understanding of Health and Safety policies and standards including lifting and handling
* Knowledge and understanding of stock management processes and stock take
* Knowledge of medical gas management of storage and distribution
* Knowledge of Goods In processes
* Knowledge of Hospital Pharmacy processes
