Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) owns vessels and harbour infrastructure necessary for vital ferry services serving many communities throughout Scotland. We have big ambitions to transform the ferry network in Scotland. Backed by investment from Scottish Government, our plans to upgrade and improve ferries and harbours are already well underway.
We are recruiting for the position of Operational Contract Manager to strengthen the Port Infrastructure Department. This position offers an exciting opportunity to act in a client role assisting with the delivery of contracts primarily in port operations but also contracts across the wider business.
The role
Working with the Director of Port Infrastructure & Planning and the Harbour Master, manage the various harbour contracts with the contracted Harbour Operator for the operation of CMAL’s 26 harbours. You will lead on all harbour contractual matters including performance and risk management, working closely with internal technical teams. In addition, you will act as a contract advisor to the wider business and where appropriate manage various contracts. The role involves:
* Managing the Harbour Operating Agreement, the Property & Equipment Licence and the Gourock Agreement (The Harbours Contracts) on day-to-day basis, ensuring that CMAL’s harbours are managed in line with the contract deliverables.
* Act as CMAL’s primary contact for The Harbours Contracts in relation to contract delivery, performance and budgeting.
* Develop and maintain working relationships with key members of the Harbour Operator’s team, as well as the relevant internal stakeholders within the Port Infrastructure department and across all other CMAL departments.
* Act as subject matter expert in relation to contract management within Port Infrastructure department and the wider business, providing guidance and support to team members as required.
* Help in the development and implementation of framework contracts for works, services and operations, and where necessary manage the resulting framework contract.

* Knowledge and understanding of contract management, preferably with experience in an operational context.
* Experience in commercial contract negotiation, performance management and dispute resolution.
* Excellent communicator with good interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust and maintain relationships.
* A relevant contract management qualification at degree level, with, or working towards, further professional membership/qualifications.

Our head office is on the Clyde Estuary in Port Glasgow and our port infrastructure is spread across the west coast and the islands of Scotland. Like most organisations, we’ve learnt a thing, or two about flexible, remote working and we are actively building on this to ensure we have the best people working with us to serve the communities that rely on our infrastructure.
The primary responsibilities of the role will be undertaken during office hours of Monday to Friday, 08.30 – 17.00 at our Port Glasgow head office, but the ability to work flexible hours, travelling and staying overnight on the CMAL network and elsewhere is also required.
