The ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) team are looking for an ROV Senior Surveyor or Survey Engineer to join them as part of the wider SALMO (Salvage and Marine Operations) department.
Our SALMO team is the lead across the Ministry of Defence (MOD) for the provision of marine salvage and emergency response. Our specialists including Master Mariners, Marine Engineers, Naval Architects, Environmental Scientists, ROV Pilots, AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) Operators and Divers provide a centre of expertise for subsea activities and marine operations. Our operations are varied and include salvage assistance to damaged surface vessels, location of aircraft on the sea-bottom, survey of WWII wrecks, towage of warships and submarines, emergency response preparedness exercises and underwater engineering support to resolve defects on Navy platforms at home and overseas.
You will work as part of a team who are responsible for ROV operations, mobilising and producing survey outputs using cutting edge commercial ROV technology to support the UK’s defence. You will be responsible for ensuring the survey planning, online survey equipment and software is capable of data acquisition and surveillance at all times.
We will provide you with the necessary training to assist you on your journey to becoming an experienced ROV Senior Surveyor.
This role is operationally important and as such attracts allowances (SALMO Terms and Conditions) depending on the working situation the employee is undertaking at that time.
What you’ll be doing
* Assist with project preparations focusing on survey planning
* Oversee installation of survey equipment
* Set up / calibrate survey online navigation systems
* Maintain survey log / record
* Acquisition and Quality Control of survey data
* Process and Quality Control survey data to meet customer requirements
* Creation of survey client report
* Develop survey procedures and best practices
* Support the ROV supervisor with day-to-day operations
* Support the ROV procurement team with technical requirements
* Be prepared to work offshore for up to 120 days split over multiple deployments each year
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following :
* Hold a relevant HNC qualification (Level 4) or have demonstrable experience as an offshore/hydrographic surveyor
* Experience of mobilising survey equipment
* Proficient in survey system calibrations
* Experience of leading survey teams
* Knowledge of system interfacing, network/communication protocols
This role is subject to Retained Grade Terms and Conditions and differ from the DE&S standard Terms and Conditions.

Due to the nature of this role, you are:
* Required to be fit to pass and maintain a two-yearly ENG1 seafarers medical (no geographical limitations)
* Required to enlist as a Royal Navy Sponsored Reserve
* Expected to work extended hours as and when required in support of operational commitments
* Required to live within 60 minutes travelling time of the base to which you are appointed
* Required to hold an in-date UK driving licence
