Introduction to role
The Hyperkalaemia and Metabolic MAL will lead the development, implementation, and performance of medical strategy for inline CVRM products working closely with the Hyperkalaemia Medical Affairs Manager (MAM). The MAL will prepare the UK Marketing Company for the launches of early assets in the metabolic TA, specifically in obesity and liver disease. Key initiatives include assessing the UK landscape through clinical pathway and expert mapping, identifying evidence gaps, and scoping opportunities to transform care leading to tangible changes in clinical practice and pathways. Additionally, the MAL will establish and maintain AstraZenecas position as a scientific leader while delivering high-level stakeholder engagement with external experts, professional societies, and patient advocacy groups.
Accountabilities
1. Accountable for the Medical Strategy and its performance in Hyperkalaemia delivered by the Hyperkalaemia MAM.
2. Provide oversight, coaching, and mentorship to the Hyperkalaemia MAM.
3. Provide medical input into all UK strategic and operational planning initiatives for the Business Unit.
4. Map current clinical practice, patient pathway, and clinical/expert networks for the management of obesity and liver cirrhosis.
5. Develop, lead, and implement medical strategies to support the launch of AstraZenecas growing portfolio across multiple indications with a specific focus on obesity and liver cirrhosis.
6. Build a strong network with key external partners (including KEEs, payers, patient advocacy groups, etc.) to deliver clinical and patient insight, customer focus, and clinical governance into commercial objectives.
7. Represent the UK in Regional and Global Medical Affairs settings for defined therapy areas.
8. Develop and deliver pre-launch and peri-launch medical plans and activities to support healthcare system and pathway change, generate real-world evidence, and deliver omnichannel education initiatives.
9. Provide strategic leadership to the Field Medical Affairs team (MSLs) to enable delivery of field-medical objectives and Key Performance Indicators.
10. Ensure good practice requirements are fully aligned with the local Quality Management System (QMS) SOP and all other AZ policies and Standards.
Essential Skills/Experience
1. Registered Physician (preferably GMC) or Pharmacist (General Pharmaceutical Council)
2. Experience in CVRM medicines and/or long-term condition management
3. Specialist knowledge of the use of CV risk-reducing medicines in clinical practice
4. Track record of leadership across the medical-marketing interface
5. Prior experience in a Medical Affairs leadership role
6. Evidence of effective team working and accountability
Desirable Skills/Experience
1. Member/Fellow of a Royal College or the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
2. Launch experience in CVRM and/or specialist care and/or acute care medicines
3. Extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry
4. Detailed knowledge of the UK healthcare system
5. Proven expertise in the ABPI Code of Practice
6. Extensive patient and customer insight through experience of working with the NHS
7. It is highly desirable for the candidate to hold or successfully acquire Nominated Signatory status. You will be required to gain Nominated Signatory status within 6 months of commencing your role. You are also required to pass re-validation testing every 12-24 months or as requested.
