The role of the Custody Engagement Worker is based within the custody suite at Middle Engine Lane police station to provide support to those detained who have a drug and/or alcohol support need. The post holder will carry out drug testing on those detainees who have been arrested for a trigger offence and where they test positive carry out an initial assessment to explore treatment needs.
They will provide harm minimisation as well as brief advice and information to those in custody and will follow appropriate reporting processes where individuals don't engage.
The post holder will need to have excellent communication skills and be able to work closely with other agencies, particularly Northumbria Police and will be required to undergo a full vetting process before the role can be commenced. Due to the nature of the role, there may be a need to work evenings and weekends.
Salary Range: £24,020 - £30,790
