Job Title: Director Government Relations

Salary: Circa £100,000 plus executive benefits package
What you’ll be doing:
* Managing BAE Systems’ day-to-day strategic relationship with UK Government with a particular focus on key Whitehall departments
* Building, developing and maintaining professional relationships with key stakeholders at all levels of government as well as amongst industry partners, trade associations, and other relevant stakeholders
* Representing BAE Systems in meetings with politicians, government policymakers, industry groups, and other key stakeholders. Prepare briefing materials, position papers, and other communication tools
* Developing and maintaining an expertise across a wide range of policy areas, particularly focussed on defence, aerospace, security and space
* Monitoring, analysing, and influencing public policy and regulatory developments affecting BAE Systems and the defence sector
* Coordinating responses into national and local government policy consultations and engagements
* Drafting senior level briefings and presentations for internal and external audiences
* Promoting and enhancing the company’s external reputation among key government, political and industry stakeholders
* Identifying and delivering proactive influencing opportunities, working with internal and external stakeholders, to showcase the business positively and support integrated campaigns
* Informing and advising internal stakeholders on governmental and political developments in the UK
* Managing memberships with relevant trade associations and think-tanks in the UK on behalf of BAE Systems
* Representing BAE Systems on relevant trade association committees and working groups
Your skills and experiences:
* Ability to translate the governmental and wider political environment into business insights, build coalitions to advocate and respond to issues, help understand regulations and institutional processes, and support the development of new business
* Deep understanding of Whitehall and Westminster
* Strong networks and links across government along with excellent understanding of the UK political process and how government develops policy
* Strong knowledge of government processes, legislative and regulatory frameworks, and public policy issues
* A good appreciation of political and geopolitical trends
* Substantial experience in Government Relations, Public Affairs or Business Development in a high-profile setting
* Knowledge of the defence sector, the associated industrial landscape and capability trends is desirable
* Commercially astute with the capacity to think strategically and deliver impact in international settings
* Degree in business administration, politics, international relations or related field

The Government Relations team:
An exciting role for a dynamic, motivated individual to be an integral part of the BAE Systems Government Relations team. You will play an important role in supporting the delivery of BAE Systems’ strategic objectives through effective engagement on policy formulation and political developments, with a particular focus on Whitehall and Westminster.
As the Director of Government Relations, External Relations & Policy you will play a key part in shaping and delivering BAE Systems’ engagement in the United Kingdom with government, politicians, policy makers and trade bodies.
You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage and influence key stakeholders on policy priorities, monitor legislative and regulatory developments, and advocate for the company’s wider interests.
