IT Data Centre - Lead Operator
Summary of the role
To lead a small team working in our datacentre facilities 24/7. Responsible for the day-to-day activities of a data centre from an IT operational perspective and physical security. Overseeing the company's servers and networks looking at taking preventative measures to ensure effective operations, prevent errors and keep physical systems running smoothly by providing physical hands support to Diligenta's IT infrastructure and Network teams. Being able to liaise and build good working relationships with our key 3rd party providers.
Recovery activities in response to business incidents impacting Site/IT Service availability.
What you'll be doing
1. Install, test and maintain a wide range of IT infrastructure and cabling within our data centres
2. Laying and testing of fibre cabling
3. Develop project documentation and provide advice as a technical authority
4. Lead data centre projects
5. Supervise staff on site to ensure project tasks, change activities, regular daily activities are fully delivered to the right standard
6. Support the IT Computer and Datacentre Operations Manager to maintain all datacentre standards, procedures, health and safety and day to day infrastructure performance issues
7. Create, review and approve job tickets and agree the implementation stage with Project Managers, Infrastructure and Network teams.
8. Ensure that the data centre is maintained and operational 24/7 by providing daily audits and reporting about the performance level of service
9. Support and be available for shift and on-call work occurring outside of normal business hours
10. Maintain accurate and up to date rack inventory details
11. Provide data centre remote hands support services when required
12. Assist in monitoring, troubleshooting and maintaining data centre infrastructure and supporting multi-platform systems
13. Tape/Media management
14. Physical security checks
15. Provide data centre engineering support for all remote data centres (travel necessary)
What we're looking for
16. IT/Computer Sciences degree or equivalent
17. Must include Grade 4 GCSE Standard Pass or above in Maths and English
18. ITIL- minimum Foundation level
19. Experience in leading a team
20. Proven knowledge and hands on experience within a datacentre environment.
21. Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience with: Hardware management (e.g. rack, stack)Backup process (Brightstor, Netbackup,Commvault) - awarenessServer hardware and ILO configuration intermediateNetwork hardware intermediateDatacentre infrastructure intermediate
22. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to quickly resolve issues and ensure minimal downtime
23. Strong organisational skills with ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
24. Experience operating within an ITIL framework with drive for continual improvement within the IT function
