Our Role
You will be responsible for owning, planning and delivering a range that is balanced across the grades and business channels. You will be passionate about product and work with buying closely to own a strong department strategy in line with the company growth plans.
You will trade effectively, be curious with a test and learn attitude. You will be able to make quick confident decisions to deliver the key objectives and work cross functionally across the business to potentialize all channels.
What you'll be doing
Planning
1. To review historical performance and determine future product strategy, working closely with the Buyer to deliver a balanced range with a robust sales, markdown, margin and stock plans.
2. Takes a global approach to strategy planning, considering the brand.
3. Manages fully the complexities of the WSSI and categories for planning the season and forecasting risk and opportunity ensuring all channels are fully utilized.
4. Create space and range plan that incorporates key KPI’s and to deliver a balanced range through the grades.
5. To plan new season buy in line with both range, category and department planning across all Business channels.
6. To review competitor activity with the Buyer to challenge future product planning.
7. To plan intake across the season to create a balanced range. Ensure appropriate stock levels and newness within stock.
8. To plan pricing strategy, working closely with the Buyer to secure overall margin.
9. To provide regular performance reviews across all Business channels.
Trading
1. Responsible for the planning of the department and delivering a range that is balanced across the grades and channels with phasing that potentializes every week and channel to deliver the department profit plan.
2. To be curious and explore opportunities to deliver growth both long and short term.
3. To establish a critical path to ensure stock is managed within targets, proactively responding to any issues. Ensure that orders are placed in line with the WSSI and ordering cycles.
4. Responsible for proposing and managing markdown plans to drive department sales and achieve terminal targets.
5. Ensures the allocation strategy fulfills the department and business needs. Flexibly adapts trading decisions to the required business needs.
Retail
1. To be responsible for the product strategy relating to retail, notably retail ranging, grading and density planning.
2. To be responsible for specific stores as notified. To ensure the retail ranging and trading strategy is regularly reviewed and corrective action is taken.
3. To ensure that regular branch visits are undertaken across the whole team and appropriate reports issued subsequently. To produce appropriate business reports after each visit and follow up action.
Supplier and product maintenance
1. To hold regular supplier reviews, to maintain thorough supplier relationships.
2. To ensure regular communication, to maintain an effective Business partnership with all Suppliers and to improve KPI’s with suppliers.
3. To undertake regular Supplier visits and attend buying trips as necessary.
4. To ensure processes and checks are in place to ensure all product records, purchase orders and system maintenance are kept in order.
Commercial Awareness
1. Multi-channel merchandiser responsible for retail, direct, wholesale and B2B ensuring all are potentialized.
2. To undertake competitor visits on a regular basis, feedback any relevant points and put into place any required action.
3. To understand, prioritise and work to the critical dates and deadlines in both the planning and trading process.
4. To consistently deliver excellent standards of customer service.
Merchandising Systems
1. To develop an excellent working knowledge of all Merchandising systems (Island Pacific, Power BI and Excel).
2. To identify and propose improved working practices and updates to processes.
Management and development of team
1. To take responsibility for own personal development and to foster good working relationships across the Business.
2. To continually review processes and controls, initiating improvements in best practice as necessary.
3. To assist in the development and training of the merchandising team.
4. To manage the team on a day-to-day basis.
The skills and experience you’ll need
1. Excellent numerical and analytical ability.
2. Experience in a Head Office Merchandising environment.
3. Experience in a Clothing division – advanced trading skills managing both seasonal and continuity products.
