Job Description: You will provide strategic direction and management of the Chief Executive’s and Committee, Civic and Member Support functions, offering personal support to the Chief Executive and Leader of the Client. Your role will navigate through a complex and demanding political environment, ensuring the effective functioning of governance arrangements. In addition, you will assist the Executive Director of Resources & Governance and the Assistant Director of Legal & Democracy in ensuring that the Client's governance structures are legally compliant and aligned with best practices. Your role will require applying detailed knowledge of local government legislation, local procedures, and policies. Responsibilities: Lead and manage the team providing strategic and operational support to the Chief Executive, Corporate Leadership Team (CLT), and Leader of the Client. Facilitate the achievement of the Corporate Plan and key corporate priorities through effective team collaboration and consistent support. Maintain a deep awareness of the main issues facing the Client, managing sensitive issues with discretion and professionalism. Oversee arrangements ensuring that the Client's governance functions comply with legal standards and are fit for purpose. Provide high-quality and proactive support to the Chief Executive and Leader of the Client, cultivating strong and collaborative working relationships. Ensure all work emanating from the CLT is of the highest standard, reflecting the high-profile nature of the work. Requirements: Previous experience within a local authority or public sector setting in a similar role. Ability to present to a wide range of stakeholders effectively. Expertise and comprehensive knowledge of local authority decision-making and governance arrangements, with the ability to advise senior officers and Councillors on the constitutional requirements of the Client's decision-making. Strong political awareness, with the ability to identify issues and risks, ensuring lead officers and members are appropriately briefed on relevant matters. Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels. Previous experience in writing comprehensive reports for consideration by the Corporate Leadership Team, Client, Cabinet, and Committee meetings. Effective line management skills, with the ability to lead by example and motivate and nurture team members.
