This is a post designed to cover a KS4, KS3 and KS5 learning curriculum, at a renowned college and sixth form for children between ages 11 and 19. The school is co educational with classes between 10 and 20 depending on the year group. You'll be supported of Heads of Department and classroom supporters.
Key Overview
1. To create and deliver challenging programmes of study in science.
2. To ensure that teaching and learning is supported by the most robust research and evidence.
3. To work as part of a teaching team and, where appropriate, help develop other teaching staff.
4. To maintain and further develop curriculum and subject specialism(s).
5. To be a designated form tutor and the key home-school link for pupils.
What are the responsabilties of a Teacher of Science?
6. Creating engaging lesson plans that meet the requirements of the National Curriculum, keeping up-to-date with changes.
7. Planning classes to include a variety of demonstrations, instruction, hands-on activities, group work and individual projects, providing pupils with opportunities to learn through different methods.
8. Teaching lessons at an appropriate level to include all pupils, aiding their understanding of the three major sciences: physics, chemistry, and biology.
9. Adapting teaching approach and materials according to the pupils’ abilities, giving them the opportunity to question and investigate.
10. Communicating effectively with the pupils so they are clear about the objectives of each lesson and project.
11. Demonstrating experiments and assisting pupils to safely carry out practical experiments themselves, to enhance their comprehension of the topic.
12. Encouraging and supporting pupils in their own research for science projects.
13. Working closely with colleagues in the science department, coordinating lessons and instructing Laboratory Technicians and Teaching Assistants (TAs).
14. Setting homework and carrying out assessments.
15. Taking the register, updating records, marking work and writing performance reports.
16. Establishing good behaviour requirements in the classroom.
17. Following safeguarding and health and safety procedures.
18. Meeting with senior staff, parents, or external bodies to discuss pupils’ progress or any concerns.
19. Attending staff meetings and parents evenings.
20. On-going training events in or outside of school.
Pertemps Requirements
21. 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or equivalent, including Science, English, and Maths.
22. An Undergraduate Education degree or a degree in a science subject, such as biology, physics or chemistry and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
23. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) preferred.
24. In-school teaching experience, gained through your Teacher training or career experience.
25. Fluent level of spoken and written English.
