The key duty is to work as part of the sleep laboratory team to provide a sleep diagnostics service and support the management team in planning and quality control of the service. This will include:
1. Prepare patients and set up equipment for polysomnography.
2. Analyse, interpret and report respiratory polygraphy and actigraphy studies.
3. Assessment of patients referred to the sleep services by clinical interview and report outcomes to their care teams.
4. Represent the Department to the wider hospital, working with other Departments and clinical teams as necessary.
5. Support the development of the Sleep Laboratory service so it continues to meet clinical need.
6. Actively participate in research, audit and service evaluation.
Main duties of the job
1. Independently take the lead in running the home respiratory polygraphy service, including setting up equipment, downloading data, scoring, interpreting and reporting the study outcomes.
2. Score, interpret and report home actigraphy studies.
3. Assess and set patients up for in-patient polysomnography, maintaining patient safety and providing care where appropriate, as well as troubleshooting any technical difficulties.
4. Work within our multidisciplinary team while being responsible for managing your workload and prioritising work appropriately.
5. Be adaptable to the changing needs of the management and department.
6. Support junior team members and act as a mentor, as well as support students during placements with the department.
7. Prepare and maintain updates to departmental SOPs.
8. Opportunities to be involved in audit and research will be available from time to time.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree in a Scientific subject which included human biology and physiology.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
Experience
* Proficiency in Microsoft products, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
* Basic knowledge of sleep disorders.
* Aware of cultural and social influences on health and the importance of respecting diversity and differences.
* Experience of data interpretation.
* Good dexterity, co-ordination and manual precision.
* Able to problem solve, use own initiative and plan, organise and prioritise own workload.
* Proven communication skills.
* NHS or healthcare provider experience.
* Previous experience in the field of sleep.
* Experience with setting up and conducting clinical audit and/or research in the clinical area.
* Project team participation.
* Experience of informal teaching.
* Knowledge regarding sleep testing, international scoring rules and standards, utilising the resources and standards of the AASM as a gold standard.
* Knowledge of regulations regarding clinical research.
* Awareness of broader issues in the Trust, the wider NHS and an understanding of the Trust agenda.
