Role Overview:
As a Visual Impairment Support Specialist, you will work closely with a student 1:1, teachers, and other staff to provide tailored support for students with visual impairments.
You will help create an inclusive classroom environment, promote accessible learning, and provide specialized interventions to enhance the educational experience of students with visual needs.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assess the needs of students with visual impairments and create personalised support plans.
* Collaborate with teaching staff to adapt classroom materials, lesson plans, and teaching methods to accommodate students' visual needs.
* Provide direct support to students with visual impairments, including orientation and mobility training and assistance with assistive technology.
* Assist with the development and use of Braille, large print, and audio materials to support learning.
* Work with other educational professionals, including special education teachers, to ensure students are fully integrated into the school community.
* Provide training and guidance to staff on best practices for supporting students with visual impairments.
* Monitor student progress and make adjustments to support plans as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
* A degree in Special Education, Rehabilitation, or related field. A certification in visual impairment or orientation and mobility is highly desirable.
