Job Description
Introduction to the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for someone looking for a Publishing Assistant role with a passion for romantic fiction. Mills & Boon is a heritage brand, established in 1908, and is the UK’s #1 publisher of romantic fiction. This role will manage Mills & Boon’s new trope-led imprint, Afterglow Books, which publishes two books per month, as well as ad hoc Mills & Boon Trade titles. The role is integral to the Mills & Boon team, providing publishing and administrative support, reporting to the Marketing & Operations Director.
Key tasks and accountabilities:
Publishing:
1. Responsible for the full publishing process for Mills & Boon, including series, anthologies, Afterglow and Mills & Boon Trade.
2. Ensure all titles are delivered to their critical paths.
3. Use analysis to identify key trends to inform titles from our backlist with wider commercial opportunities.
4. Create our anthology programme (4 books per month), following market trends to identify key themes and optimising all metadata.
5. Manage the publishing of our Afterglow imprint across all formats.
6. Create cover briefs for Modern, True Love, and Anthologies.
7. Proof-read and sign off jacket and cover copy.
8. Schedule titles across all formats.
9. General ad hoc administrative duties to support the Editorial and Marketing Teams.
Marketing:
1. Write and brief DTC flyer and proof materials supplied from Design.
2. Title selection for sales catalogues and monitoring stock levels.
Skills required:
1. A passion for romantic fiction and an avid reader.
2. Some administrative and organisation experience.
3. Excellent attention to detail.
4. Advanced MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
5. Excellent organisation skills and the ability to keep to strict deadlines.
6. Ability to manage workload and multiple work streams.
7. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
8. Ability to use data and analysis to influence decision making.
