Applications are invited for the above full time post for this 641 bed acute hospital, the network serving a local population of approximately 1.5 million. This appointment will be made in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England) 2002. This is not a training post.
The appointee will undertake duties equivalent to those of a Specialist Registrar (ST1) within Oral and Maxillofacial Department to commence as soon as possible.
In 2004, the Beds, Herts & Bucks OMFS network, based on a ‘Hub and spoke’ model, was created to enable services to be provided by six consultants. The network for Oral & Maxillofacial surgery provides services for Luton & Dunstable Hospital, Bedford Hospital, Lister Hospital, Stevenage, QEII Hospital, Welwyn and Milton Keynes Hospital, a catchment population of 1.5 million.
All in-patient services and on-call duties have been centralised to Luton & Dunstable Hospital. Out-patient clinics, day case surgery, IV sedation and local anaesthetic minor surgery are undertaken in all of the units

The network for Oral & Maxillofacial surgery provides services for Luton & Dunstable Hospital, Bedford Hospital, Lister Hospital in Stevenage, QEII Hospital in Welwyn and Milton Keynes Hospital, covering a population of 1.5 million.

There are twelve Dental Core Trainees.
• Six will work between Luton & Dunstable and Bedford / Milton Keynes Hospitals
• Six will work between Luton & Dunstable and Lister / QEII Hospitals
Each twelve-week period will comprise:
• Five weeks at Luton & Dunstable
• Two separate three week periods at your spoke units
• One week of nights (split) at Luton & Dunstable
The post will include supervised duties in both minor and major oral surgery, necessitating the management of patients on both an out-patient and in-patient basis
