Are you passionate about supporting tāngata whaiora through a mana-enhancing, whānau-centred approach? We are seeking experienced Peer Support Workers to join our team, providing peer support within the Hospital Emergency Department.
Grounded in tikanga Māori principles, this new service will uphold manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and kotahitanga, ensuring tāngata whaiora and their whānau receive culturally safe and empowering support during times of acute distress. Stepping Stone Trust, Purapura Whetu Trust, and Odyssey House are collaborating to deliver this initiative prioritising respect, collective responsibility, and reciprocity in mental health crisis care.
Mou | About You
We are looking for experienced Peer Support Workers with:
1. Lived experience of recovery from mental distress and/or addiction, with the ability to safely use your journey to support others.
2. Understanding of the Emergency Department (ED) environment, having personally accessed its services for acute or significant distress.
3. 2-3 years' experience in Peer Support, with IPS or Tuakana-Teina training.
4. Level 4 Health & Wellbeing (Mental Health & Addiction or Peer Support) qualification or equivalent.
5. Strong relationship-building skills, working with diverse communities and multi-disciplinary teams.
6. Excellent active listening, reflective practice, and communication skills.
7. A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
