Volunteer to support at a 3-day Speech Club with 21 Together
Supporting young people aged 4-11 years with Down’s syndrome at a 3-day Speech Camp run by speech therapists from Symbol UK alongside our experienced education staff. Providing the children with a more intensive environment to work on speech, social skills, friendships, appropriate behaviour and social interaction during the holidays. It also gives parents/carers some time to spend with other family members or just some time to themselves.
The position will require you to interact closely with young people with Down’s syndrome, teaching staff and speech therapists.
This is a unique experience and it would be excellent for anyone training for (or currently doing) speech and language therapy, education, or just those who consider themselves to be child-friendly people-person who want to make a real difference!
Time commitment:
Each Club runs consecutively for three days, with a half-day of training before it starts. The training is compulsory and gives you a chance to meet the staff/therapists and discuss the individual needs of each child attending the camp so that you are fully prepared for the days ahead. It will also cover some key areas of the specific learning profile of children with Down’s syndrome.
It is vital that when you are registering as a volunteer you are clear on your availability and can attend every day. This is important for the consistency of adults for the children.
