Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual with interests in project management and oversight, to work as a Translational Research Project Officer in Medical Technologies for our EPSRC Placed-based Impact Acceleration Account (PBIAA), a programme run jointly with the University of Leeds (see https://www.imbe.leeds.ac.uk/home/epsrc-place-based-impact-acceleration-account/).
You will work closely with our local academic Principal Investigator (Professor Paul Hatton) and Co-investigator (Professor Ipsita Roy) to monitor project progress to ensure that the University meets the funder’s requirements. You will provide dedicated project monitoring to specific PBIAA research projects, which typically have commercial or product development potential. You will assist with organising events related to the PBIAA. This scheme supports knowledge exchange and the translation of fundamental scientific discoveries toward realised human health benefits where the EPSRC require the establishment of appropriate management systems to ensure effective progress monitoring. You will be based within the University's INSIGNEO Institute professional services team, where you will also coordinate your work with the project leadership team based at the University of Leeds.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
* Provide project support for the planning and development of new translational research project applications from the University to external funders (primarily the PBIAA), ensuring a consistent quality approach and the sharing of best practice between applicant groups and departments.
* Work closely with the local Principal Investigator (PI) and project teams to provide a complete project monitoring function for translational research projects including: Measuring progress against work plans, budget control, coordinating meetings and the preparation of reports for sponsors.
* Assist with the organisation of PBIAA and related events, primarily those hosted by the University of Sheffield but also potentially supporting events in South and West Yorkshire.
* Maintain a high-level overview of project work, evaluating the impact of any difficulties in achieving milestones and managing risk. This will be clearly communicated to the project team and line manager.
* Act as a key contact point for programme managers and the main PI based at the University of Leeds, and potentially other third parties. This includes ensuring the timely submission of reports to the external sponsor.
* Maintain good communication links with all project stakeholders including commercial partners.
* Participate in PBIAA and related team meetings and engage in networking activities across Insigneo and other communities as required.
* Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.
