Job Description - Mammography Technologist (250325-50023063)
Purpose of Position
Perform screening and diagnostic mammographic exams and bone density exams. Technologist will also assist radiologists with needle localizations and stereotactic exams.
Description
1. Assures that bone density, mammography, and stereotactic equipment are operable, assuring MSQA (Mammography Quality Standards Act) compliance by completing all necessary quality assurance checks, maintaining accurate documentation.
2. Prepares exam rooms with necessary mammographic and stereotactic equipment/devices and orders appropriate patient supplies.
3. Receives and reviews requisitions, and radiologists last dictated reports to ensure previous images are available for radiologist.
4. Consult with radiologist, as needed for any clarification of ordered mammography exams based upon last dictated reports and patient history.
5. Provides patient with explanation of the radiologic examination to be performed and assures patient education has been provided, including the differences between screening mammograms and diagnostic mammograms process and results.
6. Assure that the required patient history questionnaire is completed. Clarify any patient history to assure accuracy.
7. Refer patients to nurse practitioner if patient identifies any new breast symptoms or if patient has not had a physical breast exam in last year.
8. Assumes care for the needs of the patients during exams and procedures to ensure safety and comfort for the patient.
9. Performs mammographic/stereotactic procedures, safely operating equipment for screening and diagnosing of breast abnormalities.
10. Follows established policies/procedures set by the department leaders and other organizations, including the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist), MSQA (Mammography Quality Standards Act), NAPBC (National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers) and DPH (Department of Public Health).
11. Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency using and or modifying established procedures to ensure timely completion of work in conformance with the department policies and procedures.
12. Participates in activities which promote professional self-growth and development; meeting minimum requirements for continuing education as directed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the Massachusetts State Licensing for mammography.
13. Maintains an ethical relationship with patients, physicians, and staff to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
14. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and coworkers.
15. Perform other work-related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
1. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
2. High school graduate or equivalent.
3. Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
4. Valid Massachusetts State License for Radiography and Mammography.
5. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
6. Current BLS certification.

48PP (24hrs. per week), Rotating Days, 8a-4p, May also cover 7a-3p, 7:30a-3:30p, 9a-5p, Rotating Saturdays 7:30a-3:30p, Rot. Weekends & No Holidays
