Dementia Together Wirral is an established and respected charity providing social activities for local people living with dementia and their carers.
We are currently in a period of rapid growth and strategic development and now have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, forward thinking and experienced OPERATIONS MANAGER to join our team of paid staff and volunteers. The Steve Morgan Foundation has generously agreed to provide a grant towards the salary costs of this new fixed term post for 3 years.
We are seeking somebody who is a confident communicator, with strong analytical, IT and critical thinking skills, able to build and maintain relationships internally and externally, write accurate and concise reports and with excellent interpersonal and financial management skills. You will provide the 'link' between the paid staff and volunteers, and the Board of Trustees, and be comfortable as the public face of the charity when needed. This is a remote working position but will involve regular travel to meetings and locations to where our user activities are held.

The Charity
Dementia Together Wirral is a local charity, formed in 2017, whose vision is to relieve social isolation to people affected by dementia and their care partners by offering quality social activities. It is our mission to provide a community centred approach of interesting and varied activities in safe, friendly environments, for those affected by dementia (with or without a diagnosis), throughout the Wirral Peninsula. Our dedicated volunteers host a variety of dementia-friendly events including memory cafés, music groups, walking groups, crafts and games groups, day trips, and more. We are a volunteer-led charity with a total of over 60 volunteers and 5 part-time staff, as of October 2024.
Dementia Together Wirral is represented within NHS Cheshire & Merseyside Dementia Network, NHS WUTH Foundation Trust Dementia Strategy Group, and NHS Cheshire and Merseyside ICB Dementia Strategy Board.
The Opportunity
As Operations Manager, you would be responsible for the day-to-day management of Dementia Together Wirral, which encompasses coordinating and overseeing all functions to ensure the charity operates smoothly. You will manage the overall administration of the charity, including staff management and development. You will implement, review and develop operational procedures and systems to ensure that everything runs efficiently, and enables timely assessment of progress and undertakes regular review of the impact of service delivery. With instruction from the Trustee Board and support from the Fundraiser and Bookkeeper, you will manage the income generation and financial management of the charity. You will also manage the HR function of the charity, including recruitment, employee onboarding, performance evaluation, and staff development.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Operations
* Responsible for the day-to-day management and running of Dementia Together Wirral activities, ensuring all operations are organised in the most efficient way.
* Work alongside the Volunteer Coordinator to implement and maintain Dementia Together Wirral’s Volunteering Strategy.
* Ensure policies and procedures are implemented on an operational level, making recommendations to the Trustee Board as required.
* Take the lead on the management of our CRM system, ensuring we are using it to maximum efficiency and making improvements as required.
* Report at quarterly Trustee meetings, providing input into delivering long-term business development strategy and sustainability.
* Responsible for leading on health and safety in accordance with the relevant legislation, including, but not limited to, risk assessments of activities and venues, reasonable adjustments, manual handling, and COSHH.
* Oversee safeguarding in conjunction with the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Marketing & PR
* Lead on the delivery and development of Dementia Together Wirral’s marketing strategy, promoting the charity’s impact and ensuring we reach our target audience effectively.
* Lead on all aspects of marketing and PR within the charity, incorporating digital marketing, social media, and traditional channels such as leaflets and flyers to achieve marketing objectives.
* Ensure the charity is meeting the needs of staff and users by effectively collating quantitative and qualitative feedback.
Staff Management & HR
* Responsible for recruitment, onboarding, retention and training of all employees.
* Line Management, including appraisal, of all staff members employed by Dementia Together Wirral, which is currently two Administrators, a Volunteer Coordinator, and Bookkeeper, ensuring they are properly supported and equipped to help meet the aims and objectives of Dementia Together Wirral.
Growth & Development
* Ensure all activities of Dementia Together Wirral meet the vision of the charity, and are well attended, as well as recognise areas for improvement and make recommendations to the Trustees accordingly.
* Work alongside the Trustee Board to develop and expand the activities offered and delivered in line with the Dementia Together Wirral Business Plan.
* Complete ongoing reviews of venues and make recommendations for continuing or changing these, as well as seeking new opportunities for venues.
* Seek new opportunities for collaborations with other organisations.
Finance
* Work with the relevant personnel to forecast income and expenditure, and to prepare and present the annual budget to the Board of Trustees for approval.
* Manage income and expenditure, in line with the agreed budget.
* Attend bi-monthly finance meetings.
* Manage agreed budgets and procurement in line with Dementia Together Wirral’s Purchasing Policy.
Fundraising
* Review and report on current income streams, identifying new funding opportunities.
* Work alongside the fundraiser to maximise income and awareness from fundraising and stewardship events.
* Collaborate with the fundraiser to plan and implement a grant making programme.

Person Specification - Desirable Criteria
* Fundraising experience including effectively identifying funding streams, managing multiple funding grants and successfully applying for funding.
* Management experience within voluntary, community and faith sector (VCFS) organisations.
* Hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to their own car with business use on their insurance.
* Experience of working in a charity undergoing change.
