We are looking for a friendly driver to join our Short Breaks respite service team in the Wakefield area. You will be driving our guests in our minibus from the Short Breaks unit to the Day Care Centre in the morning and returning them safely in the afternoon (approximately 4 hours a day), generally on weekdays only although other shifts may be available depending upon the needs of the service.
What does the role involve?
• Assisting the guests to enter and vacate the minibus, ensuring their safety and physical needs are fully met
• Driving the minibus observing safety and traffic rules, and being attentive to traffic and weather conditions
• Ensuring the minibus is maintained through completion of daily checks, refuelling, vehicle cleanliness and reporting of maintenance and repair issues to the manager
What you need…
• A full valid UK driving licence with category D1 is essential for this role, together with no more than 6 penalty points for minor offences. You must be able to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
• Previous driving experience and be confident driving lengthy journeys on occasion
• Ideally you will have experience of driving a minibus and assisting passengers, and will hold a MIDAS qualification
• A good understanding of disability related issues/needs and be comfortable working with and providing support for people with disability
• A caring and compassionate nature
• Excellent communication skills
