To provide a highly specialised clinical service, performing competently basic and complex, respiratory investigative procedures on routine and emergency outpatients and inpatients at Kingston Hospital without supervision. The post holder also may need to interpret and provide written reports on Full Lung Function Assessment.
The post holder will be expected to train other physiology colleagues in order that they can competently provide cover during post holder’s absence.
Saturday and Sunday hours only
• To support the respiratory physiology service
• To perform full Lung Function Tests and provide written, accurate and factual report for both patients and clinicians.
• To recognise test findings requiring immediate medical attention
To be aware of and work within national and local clinical standards and protocols.
• To perform basic respiratory investigative procedures: lung volume measurements using body plethysmography and helium dilution, Gas transfer measurements, Spirometry/flow volume loops, Bronchodilation assessments, Respiratory muscle testing (MIP, MEP and SNIP) and supine/sitting spirometry (occasionally), FENO (exhaled NO), Overnight oximetry (occasionally) and any other tests deemed necessary by the Head of Department
• To maintain all equipment used to a clean and serviceable standard, reporting faults where necessary
• Fully conversant with basic cardio-respiratory resuscitation techniques including appropriate use of oxygen, suction and emergency equipment.
