The Role
The Senior Chemistry Laboratory Analyst will undertake analytical testing of water samples using a variety of methodologies including ICP-OES, Spectroscopy, Ion Chromatography and various other wet chemistry techniques. The individual will need to be self-motivated, proactive and hardworking with the ability to prioritise workload ensuring that samples are processed in time to meet our clients' requirements. The individual will be provided with full training of the methods employed and be responsible for validation and achieving further accreditation in line with our governing body.
Working hours: 37.5 hours per week. 8am-4pm
Working style: Lab based.
Responsibilities
1. Understand the technical requirements of the methods.
2. Assist the Laboratory Manager & Team Leader in the validation of new methods and existing in accordance to 17025: UKAS requirements.
3. Perform laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations and meet client specific turnaround times.
4. Carry out routine tasks accurately and follow strict methodologies to carry out analyses.
5. Use the Laboratory Management System (LIMs) to enter results and prioritise work.
6. Meet the requirements of the Quality System and follow all written procedures correctly, maintaining and operating standards for laboratory equipment.
7. Assist with troubleshooting instrumentation and methods.
8. Support the Laboratory Manager & Team Leader in the training of Chemistry Analysts in line with ISO17025.
9. Uphold and apply Alpha Scientific's values and act as a role model for staff.
The Person
1. Excellent communication and people skills.
2. Degree or equivalent in a science; preferably in chemistry.
3. Experience of ICP-OES, Ion Chromatography and other appropriate instrumentation.
4. Understanding of ISO17025: UKAS requirements.
5. Experience of working with databases, knowledge of Excel and Word.
6. Minimum 2 years' experience.
7. Self-starter who can work well and maintain a professional attitude under pressure.
8. Good awareness of health and safety at work.
