A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Site Engineer to join a well-established family-owned business in Leeds.
This company is a leading manufacturer and supplier of equipment to the renewable energy industry, renowned for its pioneering super low-loss amorphous transformer technology.
Their flagship product significantly contributes to energy savings, cost reduction, and carbon footprint reduction, addressing the global challenge of energy wastage.
You will primarily focus on the installation of new transformers and package substations on-site, which includes fitting, wiring, and testing of both distribution and power transformers. The role may also involve some pre-build work at the Leeds facility, warranty investigations, rectification work on-site, and routine equipment maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform site-based and in-house pre-fitting and assembly of various types of distribution and power transformers and associated packages.
* Prepare for work by studying assembly instructions, blueprint specifications, pre-assembly images, and parts lists while gathering necessary parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials.
* Assemble components by examining connections for correct fit and fastening parts and subassemblies.
* Travel to third-party sites across the UK and Europe to assemble and test equipment.
* Ensure all equipment is assembled and tested to the highest standards.
* Serve as a customer-facing ambassador for the company, delivering excellent customer service, even under pressure.
* Utilize initiative in a dynamic environment while focusing on task completion and safety.
* Read and understand mechanical and schematic drawings.
* Operate general workshop machinery and hand tools related to the role.
* Identify and collaborate with colleagues to resolve site-related challenges.
* Be prepared to work unsociable hours when required to meet customer needs.
* Stay updated with legislative changes and communications.
* Follow reasonable requests from management and supervisors, including duties not specified in the job description.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
* Essential experience in fitting distribution and power transformers and associated packages on-site.
* Hands-on experience in a mechanical/electrical engineering environment.
* Proficiency in reading mechanical and schematic drawings.
* Apprentice-trained or possess a relevant Mechanical/Electrical qualification.
* Familiarity with health and safety practices and conducting risk assessments.
* ECS accreditation is essential.
* Full UK driving licence is required.
* Transformer full testing experience is desirable.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills for liaising with customers and resolving issues proactively.
* Strong troubleshooting abilities and excellent attention to detail.
* Flexibility and adaptability to attend sites at short notice, possibly outside normal working hours.
* Experience working collaboratively with operations personnel and the ability to train and enhance colleagues' skills.
* Ideally experienced in a continuous improvement environment.
* Up-to-date training on Overhead Crane/Slinging Lifting certification is preferred.
* A Forklift Truck (FLT) licence and IPAF certification are advantageous.
