About The Role Head of SHE - MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation)

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) to lead, implement, and uphold a strong SHE culture across the ONE MEICA operating businesses. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of SHE assurance and management action plans that safeguard our people, clients, and customers. A key driver in this role is to lead a proactive cultural shift, enhancing behaviors at all levels to prevent incidents, injuries, work-related illness, and asset damage. You will manage resources, implement controls, and effectively manage risks within the One MEICA framework, ensuring that safety and environmental standards are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver and maintain a framework that promotes a culture of safety and an incident-free environment across the organisation.
2. Oversee and manage the business, contract, and workstream risk registers, ensuring alignment with the SHE assurance model.
3. Define and deliver annual SHE business-specific targets and objectives, ensuring a continuous improvement approach.
4. Collaborate proactively with senior leadership, managers, and key personnel to implement and maintain a safety culture.
5. Monitor performance against targets, identify trends, and seize opportunities to drive improvement.
6. Provide support and advice to ensure CDM compliance, ensuring that competent resources are appointed for duty holder roles.
7. Analyse root causes and non-conformities, adopting corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
8. Ensure the effective use of internal systems and applications to manage operational risks and enforce compliance.
9. Collaborate with other divisions to share best practices and ensure relevant targets and objectives are met.
10. Manage client-specific SHE standards and specifications, ensuring they are adhered to across all operations.
11. Assist operations with SHE improvement initiatives, tailored to client-related requirements.
12. Produce SHEQ performance reports for clients, divisional, and group functions, presenting them as required.
13. Support the delivery of group-wide safety and performance initiatives (e.g., road risk) across operational teams.
14. Effectively manage health surveillance requirements, including HAVS, confined space medicals, face-fit testing, pre-employment screening, and drug and alcohol testing.
15. Assist the group supply chain control team to ensure SHE evaluations of subcontractors progress efficiently.
16. Lead and participate in external audits, verifying company accreditations and awards.
17. Develop and distribute SHE-related promotional material, alerts, bulletins, and briefings to raise awareness and share lessons learned.
18. Lead incident investigations as necessary, ensuring exemplary processes and outcomes.
19. Manage communication with the zonal lead and Divisional SHE Director to ensure alignment and progression on key matters.
20. Manage and develop your SHEQ team, offering guidance and support for their professional development through an industry-recognised competency framework.
21. Conduct quarterly 1-2-1 reviews with your management team to ensure alignment and progress.
Skills & Knowledge:
1. In-depth knowledge of safety, health, environmental, and risk management practices.
2. Proven experience in implementing best practices, risk management techniques, and leadership principles.
3. Extensive understanding of SHE legislation, standards, and regulations.
4. Ability to solve problems and implement effective risk mitigation solutions across various environments.
5. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels and influence change.
6. Proven ability to interpret complex safety, health, environmental, and risk management issues, providing expert advice.
7. Extensive experience in a senior SHE role, ideally within high-risk environments.
8. Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively.
Qualifications & Experience:
1. NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent).
2. Chartered membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards, or equivalent professional body membership.
3. Up-to-date CPD (evidence to be provided).
4. Significant experience working in high-risk environments.
5. Management/Leadership qualification (or working towards).
6. Proven experience in maintaining or achieving externally audited management standards such as ISO 45001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001, alongside certifications such as Achilles, NICEIC, Safe Contractor.
7. Demonstrable experience in a similar SHE role with a focus on continuous improvement.
8. Proficient in using work management systems, Microsoft Office 365, data analysis, and implementation of strategies and action plans.
