Due to a recent retirement and restructuring within the department of Breast, Endocrine, Skin and Sarcoma, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Breast Surgery.
This is a new full-time post specializing in breast disease diagnosis and management. It involves seeing new patients in a breast one-stop clinic, discussing cases at the MDT meeting, assisting in theatre, pre and post-operative care of breast patients, and assessment and management of breast emergencies. This post will take place within normal working hours; there is no on-call commitment.
Initially, the post will be based at Poole Hospital, but as University Hospitals transformation plans progress, it is expected the breast team will unite on one site. This means you will need to be flexible when it comes to cross-site working. This post will have a supervised training element to allow you to progress your skills.
For an informal chat to learn more about the role and department, please contact Miss Clark, the Clinical Lead (sarah.clark3@uhd.nhs.uk).
Your role will include:
* Out-patient clinics – assessing new fast track patients
* Operating – assisting and undergoing training as appropriate
* Attendance at and participation in MDT meetings
* Active participation in clinical audit, governance, and research
* Pre and post-operative care of patients
* Assessing and treating breast emergencies
* Attendance at weekly operational meetings
Clinical Governance and Appraisal:
The post holder is expected to participate in the Directorate's Clinical Governance half-day meetings held on a monthly basis, maintain their own skills and competencies through Continual Professional Development (CPD), and participate in Clinical Audit and Effectiveness work and Research and Development, as appropriate. It is a trust requirement that all staff keep up to date with mandatory training requirements and have annual appraisal.
Management:
The post-holder will be required to work within the Trust's management policies and procedures, both statutory and internal, accepting that the resources available to the Trust are finite. All changes in clinical practice or workload, or developments requiring additional resources must have prior agreement with the Trust. The post-holder will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of their patients.

Our values define who we are as #TeamUHD. They underpin everything we do now and in the future. They define how we treat our patients, visitors, and each other, our valued teammates and colleagues.
UHD is investing in services across the Trust, with many being transformed and developed following the merger and the New Hospital Programme. This means that some services may move sites this year or next, either temporarily or long-term. Recruiting Managers interviewing for this role will be happy to answer any specific questions that you have about this at the interview.
Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance/reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder’s home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.
