The following are the core responsibilities of the medical receptionist. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels. This job description may be amended in consultation with the post holder as developments evolve, and as part of the appraisal process.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Receiving incoming calls and contacting patients by telephone, text, email, or letter.
2. Arranging appointments for patients via our computerized appointments system.
3. Supporting the clinical team with tasks such as shredding, filing, and photocopying.
4. Performing general office duties including emails and AccuRx, Emis & Docman tasks.
5. Supporting with QOF.
6. Taking and relaying messages over the telephone and face-to-face.
7. Dealing with visit requests and providing the necessary paperwork for doctors.
8. Receiving patients and visitors at the reception desk and consulting with other members of the team.
9. Handling requests for prescriptions, reports, etc., and checking patient identifiable information, all in line with practice protocols.
10. Processing prescriptions and amending patient details.
11. Managing new patients' documentation and temporary residents, entering details onto the system and creating new patient files.
12. Processing patients' change of address computer data and medical records (have knowledge of practice area).
13. Registering patients for online access.
14. Communicating with patients on behalf of clinicians with test results and messages.
15. Having a working knowledge of our telephone system, during & after hours.
16. Being available to provide cover if requested and being flexible (e.g., supporting with overtime requirements or adjusting shift patterns to support service delivery).
17. Any other duties that the management team deems appropriate to the role.
