Role - Design Manager, Infrastructure Location - Norwich Purpose of the role: As Design Manager, you will be responsible on a project or a portfolio of smaller projects, for the management of design organisations and for the coordination of design input and review, to ensure that designs are safe, efficient and compliant with standards to construct, operate and maintain. What will you be doing: You will: Promote Galliford Try's values of Excellence, Passion, Integrity and Collaboration. Lead on undertaking, or liaising with, the Principal Designer organisational role, as defined in the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and associated guidance. Act as the Service Manager for the NEC4 Professional Service Contract with Consultants, with support from commercial and planning staff. Support the Project Lead with design matters in the NEC4 Engineering & Construction Contract with the Client. Develop and operate Design Management Plans, BIM Execution Plans and associated documents. Ensure design management processes and systems are operating effectively. Coordinate and develop design and survey scopes and change instructions. Coordinate input to, and review of, design with stakeholders including the Client, public, construction team, suppliers and third-party asset owners and consenting bodies. Coordinate and input to the appraisal of design and methodology options to optimise safety and efficiency. Coordinate and input to the designer's proposed construction sequence and the integrated design and construction risk register. Coordinate with designers, and input to, the temporary works, lifting, traffic management and other construction methodology aspects that affect the permanent works design. Organise and chair design review meetings. Distribute minutes and coordinate actions. Coordinate and undertake design review and acceptance procedures. Monitor, analyse and report design production and design management performance. Input to, and review of, subcontract scopes, construction method statements and inspection and test plans produced by site engineering staff to ensure that they comply with design requirements. Coordinate with designers and input to the technical queries, material approval requests, contractor design approvals, design change requests, non-conformance reports and as-built drawing mark-ups etc produced by site engineering staff during construction. Support continuous improvement initiatives. Write, review, present and distribute knowledge share information. Manage support staff. Review the Consultant's cost forecasts, applications for payment and quotations. Input to the Contractor's cost forecasts, applications for payment and quotations for design matters. Coordinate the estimation of whole life costs for design option appraisals. Line management of support staff members, such as Design Coordinators and Document Controllers. Participate in social value initiatives. Production of design management plans, design scopes and associated documents. Monitoring, sending and responding to design process and contractual communications within periods for reply. Chairing and minuting design review, collaborative planning and early warning meetings. About you: Ability to use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technologies. Ability to apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to manage the design of infrastructure. Ability to provide technical and commercial management. Ability to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to demonstrate a personal commitment to professional standards, recognising obligations to society, the profession and the environment. Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Graduate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers with demonstrated progression in their Initial Professional Development (minimum). Incorporated or Chartered Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (desired). Previous experience as both a Site Engineer and as a Design Manager, Design Coordinator or Design Engineer.
