Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Controls Engineer to join our team in Cambridge. In this critical role, you will ensure the reliability and optimization of automated systems across our food manufacturing processes. This position offers the opportunity to work on innovative projects, tackle complex technical challenges, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our production operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Automation Systems Maintenance: Ensure the smooth operation of automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and related hardware. Conduct regular inspections, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting to minimize equipment downtime.
2. Control Systems Programming and Configuration: Develop and modify PLC, HMI, and SCADA programs to meet operational needs. Integrate new machinery and upgrade existing systems to support production goals.
3. Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies and recommend enhancements to production processes. Collaborate with operations teams to implement control solutions that improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
4. Project Execution: Manage end-to-end automation projects, from concept and design to commissioning and support. Work with external vendors and contractors to ensure timely delivery and compliance with specifications.
5. Technical Support and Training: Provide technical support to the maintenance and operations teams to resolve issues quickly. Train team members on the operation and maintenance of control systems.
6. Documentation and Compliance: Maintain detailed technical documentation, including electrical schematics, operational manuals, and project records. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, including food safety and quality protocols.
Requirements Qualifications and Skills:
1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
2. Experience: At least 3 years of hands-on experience in automation, controls engineering, or a related role. Prior experience in food manufacturing or FMCG industries is preferred.
3. Technical Proficiency: Expertise in programming and troubleshooting PLCs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, or Mitsubishi preferred). Familiarity with HMI design, SCADA systems, and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP). Knowledge of robotics, motion control, and vision systems is an advantage.
4. Skills: Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills. Effective communication and collaboration abilities, with a focus on teamwork. Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
