Job overview
We are looking for a highly experienced and motivated knowledgeable Therapeutic Radiographer who is seeking an opportunity to join the Brachytherapy team at Plymouth Oncology Centre.
We currently provide a Brachytherapy service for Gynaecological cancers and are looking to expand our services on completion of our exciting new Brachytherapy suite, which will include our own theatre.
Applicants should have experience working to a high level of competence within Brachytherapy and work alongside the Brachytherapy Specialist Lead Radiographer, deputising where required to provide support.
You will have the ability to manage a brachytherapy treatment unit and possess excellent communication and organisational skills to manage a team of staff under pressure and support patients with a consistently high standard of care and empathy.
The ideal candidate will be expected to work collaboratively, have an ambition for excellence, and deliver safe brachytherapy to patients undergoing sensitive procedures.
A wide range of radiotherapy experience is required with the ability to work autonomously and competency across all aspects of the brachytherapy service including pre-treatment, CT, and external beam radiotherapy areas.
Applicants need to have a keen interest in contributing to the future strategic development of the brachytherapy service regarding techniques and service improvement projects and enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
1. Be a highly experienced, organised, and knowledgeable Therapeutic Radiographer registered to practice with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and have experience working to a high level of competence within the Brachytherapy specialty.
2. Assist and support the Brachytherapy Lead Specialist in managing all aspects of the Brachytherapy service, deputising fully where required.
3. Confidently and professionally provide expert specialist advice and support in all aspects of Clinical Brachytherapy service.
4. Assist and participate in the current and future development and expansion of the highly specialised Brachytherapy services.
5. Ensure the safe and competent use of the High Dose Rate Afterloader complying with all policies and procedures set out by the trust and the departmental Quality system along with national legislation (IRR 2017 and IR(ME)R 2017).
6. Be an operator under IR(ME)R 2017 and work under classified worker status being professionally and legally accountable for own clinical practice.
7. Have responsibility, in conjunction with the Brachytherapy Lead Specialist, for clinical governance compliance as set out by the trust within the specialised Brachytherapy service.
8. Actively participate in specialist clinical training and supervision of all junior staff, new staff, students, and other health professionals in the Brachytherapy service.
9. Possess an ambition for excellence and deliver safe and compassionate care.

We have a dedicated team to head up our busy Radiotherapy Support Services area. We also have Radiographers trained in consent, radiographer-led review, and 2 independent non-medical prescribing radiographers.
We routinely support postgraduate training for Radiographers, training, and skills development, both in-house and through external courses.

Qualifications
* Degree in Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent. DCR (T) or BSc (Hons).
* HCPC Registration as a Radiographer.
* Robust CPD profile demonstrating relevant training and lifelong learning.
* Proven evidence of education to Masters level or equivalent experience.
* Practice Educator training.
* Teaching/training/coaching/mentoring/auditing qualification.
Knowledge and Experience
* Demonstrable experience of brachytherapy treatments and patient preparation.
* Ability to work as a senior member of staff in all areas of the department.
* Demonstrable experience in managing people successfully.
* Proven evidence of effective training/supervision/managing of staff.
* Highly specialised level of current knowledge and clinical experience of Radiotherapy procedures, particularly Brachytherapy and Gynaecological Treatment delivery and aftercare, Brachytherapy equipment, planning procedures for palliative patients, and cancer pathology and disease patterns.
* Demonstrable high level of computer skills for Word, Excel, and Outlook.
* Possess excellent English language communication skills with the ability to communicate and present complex information appropriately and to differing audiences.
* Demonstrable experience with brachytherapy equipment and ARIA.
* Demonstrable experience in clinical audit.
* Demonstrable experience in writing clinical documents.
Aptitude and Abilities
* Ability to teach and educate staff, students, and other professional colleagues using different teaching methods appropriate to the needs of each team.
* Ability to communicate complex information across professional boundaries using effective communication techniques.

* Required to use computer systems and VDU equipment, use Excel, Word, etc. to produce and analyse documents and spreadsheets for audit and teaching.
