University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Main duties of the job
The Cellular Pathology team at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is looking for an experienced, dynamic, and proactive individual who understands the broad landscape of medical and academic research.
The post holder will play a crucial role in advancing diagnostic services, research, and innovation within pathology and will have proven skills in strategic thinking, decision-making, team leadership, change management, and a collaborative mindset. This role is intended as a strategic, outward-facing role with collaboration and engagement with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
The research histology department is a mature and well-established department within Cellular Pathology. The post holder will also have the opportunity to work alongside the University of Southampton Research and Clinical Trials Unit, supporting university researchers in their unique research, national multi-center, and commercial trials.
The Clinical Samples Project for Patient Benefit is a recent addition to the department thanks to Trust investment. The focus of this group is to facilitate the collection of fresh and fixed tissue samples in excess of diagnostic requirements under consent and within ethical regulatory frameworks. These tissues are intended for research and commercial use and this is an exciting and emerging area that requires further development.
The post holder will also have line management responsibility for a team of scientists, support workers, and clinical trial assistants working closely with the other operational managers across cellular pathology to supervise, support, and develop these staff.
UHS offers fantastic training and development giving you the best possible opportunities to achieve the career you want. The development of our staff is central to the delivery of high-quality, safe, and effective care.
Working for our organisation
As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to.
All non-clinical roles may involve a mixture of on-site and remote working, and specific details and flexible working options can be discussed as part of the interview process.
