If so the Development Manager (D&O) is a new pivotal role within the Development Team, ensuring the creation and upkeep of the College’s prospect management system. Able to conduct prospect research the Development Manager D&O will aid the College’s fundraising strategy by providing detailed reports and information on prospective donors.
The role will be responsible for gift administration and the regulatory/ legislator requirements that accompany it, providing reports and data analysis for internal and external stakeholders, as well as database administration within the Development team.
The College is flexible to different working patterns, whether that is 22 hours over 3 days or over 5 you let us know what your preference is and we will try to accommodate it. There will be times, due to the nature of the role, that you may be required to work evenings and weekends but you will receive plenty of notice.
Job responsibilities
• Undertake qualitative research using a range of sources, to provide information that will inform prospect and fundraising strategy, gift opportunities and the development of proposals.
• Identifying and rating major gift prospects, assigning gift capacity and propensity ratings to all prospects.
• Update the database with all research output including prospect rankings, profiles and research.
• Provide timely and accurate briefings for senior management of donors and potential donors for events and face-to-face fundraising meetings.
• Assist fundraisers in creating and revising cultivation strategies and solicitation plans for donors throughout the relationship cycle.
• Develop and oversee a prioritised programme of database research focused on potential sources of income.
• Support the regular giving programme by analysing and segmenting data to improve targeting, and setting suggested ask amounts.
• Be an ‘expert user’ of the prospect management system and be familiar with all data entry, set up and reporting functions to help and facilitate other team members’ needs in their areas of work.
• Undertake an audit of the database and make recommendations about how its integrity can be improved.
• Devise procedures for the entry of data by all members of the Development Office, to ensure the integrity of the database is maintained and legislation/ regulations are adhered to.
• Take responsibility for training individuals in the implementation of these procedures and their understanding of legislation/ regulations relating to the management of personal data, monitoring their success, as required.
• Provide the Development Director and others with high quality reports as required, including the manipulation and analysis of data.
• Monitor and ensure best practice in financial administration and maintain a good understanding of the latest developments and legislation as it applies to the fundraising.
• Working with the University of Cambridge where appropriate, be responsible for the due diligence process, recording the outcomes of decisions on gift acceptance, and advising on policies and processes.
• Work with the Finance Team, ensuring effective communication to support reconciliation, awareness of incoming donations and donation records.
Person Specification
Experience
• Experience within a similar role.
• Knowledge of prospect research methods and data sources.
• Ability to organise and manage a diverse range of assignments and projects with high efficiency with rigorous attention to detail in presentation.
• Ability to analyse and synthesise information from a wide variety of sources and to summarise and present the resulting information clearly. Experience providing written and/or oral briefings and reports for fundraisers, senior staff and volunteers.
• Experience researching and rating potential donors or sponsors, and of supporting fundraisers in creating prospect pipelines and cultivation strategies.
• Experience working as part of a team, and of co-operating with individual colleagues.
• Experience using prospect management systems.
• Knowledge of UK legislations and regulations associated with development and fundraising.
• Experience of undertaking prospect research in a charity, higher education or an equivalent organisation.
• Experience in GDPR administration in a development/ fundraising context.
• Experience of detailed analysis and manipulation of data and producing management reports.
• Knowledge of philanthropic giving trends in higher education. (desirable)
