Job Introduction
BBC Sport is looking for a creative and dynamic Assistant Producer to join our Sport+ Digital video team, producing best-in-class video content for the BBC’s digital platforms and social media accounts.
For a century, the BBC has been synonymous with covering the biggest sporting events and reporting on the stories that matter. From World Cups to Olympic Games and everything in between, our teams produce world-class content on TV, radio and digital for bigger audiences numbers than anyone else, every single day.
BBC Sport has the largest online sports site and app in the UK, and more than 30m followers across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.
Main Responsibilities
In this Assistant Producer role you will create digital video content that promotes the best of BBC Sport’s programmes and events, reaching an audience of millions with your work.
You’ll join our Sport+ Digital team, which has a remit to reach audiences with content beyond the live action clips and highlights, producing and editing high-quality short form video features for our digital platforms.
The Sport+ Digital team works collaboratively with other teams in BBC Sport to:
* Originate short form video content that promotes our priority sports and events.
* Maximise the reach of our features, analysis, podcasts and punditry online.
* Extend our long form documentaries and programmes beyond TV and iPlayer.
The ideal candidate will be a skilled video creator, who knows social platforms inside-out, and understands the best way to tell stories on each of them - informing and entertaining our existing audience, while reaching out to new fans too.
Our Assistant Producers are passionate about a range of sports and know what makes a good story. You’ll pitch content ideas and develop formats that can be used across teams and platforms. You will relish the challenge of producing creative and ambitious video content on budget.
In this job, you‘ll need to know and love your sport, and have sound editorial judgement to spot the stories that matter and will engage audiences. You’ll be flexible, positive, collaborative, and a confident communicator. You will use data insights to shape your ideas, and share your skills, knowledge and understanding with other teams in BBC Sport.
Are you the right candidate?
The ideal candidate will have previous industry-level experience creating exciting, engaging and informative video content across a range of styles and formats.
You will need to be a skilled short form video creator – including experience shooting (on mobile, DSLR or higher spec) and editing on Adobe Premiere Pro – and you will have also had previous experience producing or directing video content. Adobe Photoshop skills for elevating images are desirable, and the ability to use After Effects is a bonus.
You will have an excellent understanding of how digital platforms differ in terms of their storytelling styles and trends, and know how to tailor your content to make the biggest impact on each of them.
And crucially, you’ll have a real passion for sport, and the stories and personalities within it. You will know the type of content that captivates audiences online and will be able to spot the stories and moments that can stop viewers mid-scroll.
You will be an excellent communicator, able to collaborate with other teams within BBC Sport and beyond in order to deliver the best outcomes, and be comfortable working alongside high-profile talent.
A driven self-starter, you will be able to develop content ideas around themes or sports stories that are of interest to diverse audiences. You'll be an excellent problem-solver, able to work around challenges and obstacles.
Thorough and organised, you will be able to manage your time in the office and on location. Some home working is possible, but as a team we believe we achieve the best outcomes by working together in our Salford office. The sporting calendar and schedule means you will also sometimes need to be available to work at weekends to support our events, programming and output.
This is not an entry level role, we're looking for candidates with experience in a company or agency working with significant brands, organisations and accounts. Please review the criteria for the role before applying.
