Job overview

You will support you to maintain logbooks and portfolio.

Main duties of the job
The Junior Trust Doctor on the MAU is responsible for the admission and care of patients referred from General Practitioners and the Emergency Department.
Junior medical cover on MAU consists of four Clinical Fellows working alongside three Foundation Year 2 doctors in a full shift rota. They are expected to present their cases during consultant-led post-take ward rounds, maintain full, clear clinical notes, and make appropriate handover arrangements when going off duty. They are also responsible for looking after ward patients out of regular hours. Middle grade doctors will be present on site to supervise them at all times. The post-holder will be required to be as flexible as possible in respect of working hours, in order to allow some flexibility in the MAU rota.
Junior Doctors may be asked to work on either hospital site in the event of emergencies. The evolution of working practices may also lead to changes in the planned rotations which might involve working on both sites.
As a junior clinical fellow, you would be required to support Senior doctors with our ward jobs and help with clerking as required.
Working for our organisation
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust forms one of the major acute trusts in the Northwest of England with all of the usual specialties on site, as well as being a Tertiary Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria in the Departments of Neurosciences, Nephrology, Oncology, Plastic Surgery, and Burns. Undergraduate medical student teaching commenced in 2003.
Services are provided across two sites: Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley & South Ribble District General Hospital.
MAU at Chorley has 23 beds with 2 GP lounges. There is a designated team led by consultants who perform daily ward rounds. There are opportunities to perform basic medical procedures and get involved in the day-to-day care of patients and ward jobs.
MAU in Royal Preston Hospital has 33 beds and is managed by Acute Physicians and outlier teams jointly. As a major cohort of patients are at the front door, the Acute Medicine team provides in-reach into ED and performs post-takes and Day 2 patient reviews.
