About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to take on a challenging role as a Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer within our team.
You will be responsible for deputising for the PNED Build Assurance Manager as required and supporting or leading Nuclear Safety Engineering activities for the Astute and Dreadnought programme.
Key responsibilities include resolving emergent issues during the Build and Commission of the Naval Reactor Plant using common Safety Engineering techniques, acting as the Intelligent Customer for documentation and advice concerning the Naval Reactor Plant and safety case, developing sound technical solutions to issues arising during construction and commissioning, and carrying out nuclear safety assessments of changes to, and deviations from, the Naval Reactor Plant design intent.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Degree-level qualification in a relevant subject such as Engineering or Physical Science
* Understanding of reactor plant systems and demonstrable competence in technical report writing
The ideal candidate will have experience in engineering design and build of systems, including understanding of safety and quality roles. They should also be able to lead engineering investigations and constructively challenge and influence others.

This role provides the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of the Naval Reactor Plant for both the Astute Class and Dreadnought Class of submarines. The role involves a broad range of the Engineering Lifecycle for a Naval Reactor Plant, from Engineering Design Reviews through to build, test, and commissioning activities.
