Supplier Development Engineer - Peterlee
Initial 12 month contract - possibility to extend for the right person
36.5 hours a week, Mon – Fri, flexible on start/finish – can start as early as 6am
Up to £29.00 PAYE hourly rate plus holiday and pension contribution OR Umbrella hourly rates up to £39.36 - depending on experience

Our client is a worldwide manufacturer of construction and mining products. They’re looking for a Supplier Development Engineer for non metallics, on an initial 12 month contract basis with the possibility to extend for the right person; to assess supplier quality and ensure that all the products are free from defects and are following manufacturing specifications and legal standards.
What will the Supplier Development Engineer do?
Lead Supplier & Part Development for Resource Industries (RI) Non-Metallic suppliers and parts
Accountable for Supplier Excellence Recognition (SER), Quality Systems audits (CQMS), Rough Cut Capacity Planning (RCCP)
Work on Non-Conformance Management (NCM) via QMS system and work with supplier for Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) for closure
Review PPAP documents for the supplier’s parts from a manufacturing standpoint. Identify any gaps in the documents submitted & review with the suppliers to update/correct and resubmit
Good working knowledge of APQP & TFC. Understand the manufacturing process of non-metallic components. E.g. injection molding, rubber forming/molding, foam molding, rotomolding etc.
Work as needed on Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) STOP capability, Built in Quality (BIQ) based on any Non-Conformance Management (NCM) against the assigned supplier
Follow up on Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) for closure
What skills and experience does the Supplier Development Engineer need?
5 years’ experience working with Non Metallics suppliers & processes. You’ll have high technical knowledge in manufacturing & quality systems + non-metallic components (Plastic, foam, rubber etc.) as well as previous experience in a Supplier Quality Manufacturing Engineer role
Strong written and verbal communication skills dealing with both internal and external partners
Very good problem-solving abilities, analytical ability, process improvement mindset
Strong working level knowledge of quality practices, methods, tools & techniques
Knowledge and understanding of APQP, Engineering specifications, GD&T
Knowledge of PPAP elements, submissions & objectives. Ability to determine whether a supplier can manufacture products that meet the quality requirements and standards consistently.
Knowledge of supplier evaluations and certification; ability to identify the methods, tools and documentation for evaluating, selecting and certifying vendors, suppliers and partners.
PC literate – you’ll be trained on our client’s software. ETQ experience would be an advantage
