An exciting opportunity for a 3D CAD Technician is available in Derby. My Client specialises in the design and delivery of structural steel and timber-steel hybrid projects, bringing to life the capabilities of both hybrid and traditional steel superstructures to the mass market offering innovative and sustainable design schemes.
They possess extensive experience in the production of engineered products, including Structural Steelwork, Cross Laminated Timber, Timber Cassette Systems, and Glulam. Their expert team of designers, draughtsman and project managers can offer complete design and build solutions, from concept to completion.
About the Role
They require a 3D CAD Technician to work within the estimating team to produce accurate structural models of planned construction projects and to support the development of bids and tenders by undertaking some Estimator duties. The ideal candidate will be responsible for modelling structural steelwork / portal frame schemes. You will have a minimum of one years experience as a 3D CAD Technician, preferably with knowledge of structural steel, and will ensure projects are adequately modelled within an effective timeframe to support the delivery of projects. Applicants should be enthusiastic, proactive and have a willingness to develop and learn alongside the growth of the business.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Understand the clients enquiry documentation to fully ascertain the requirements of the tender to ensure the bid submissions are compliant.
2. Have the ability to read and understand structural engineers and architects general arrangement drawings, design reports & specifications.
3. Able to use 3D Modelling Software such as Tekla Structures.
4. Ability to use various other software such as Bluebeam, Trimble Connect, DWG TrueView, Microsoft Office including Word, Publisher and Excel and Adobe InDesign.
5. Produce bid information including material quantity lists, 3D Views, PDF Models and piece counts.
6. Communicate effectively with the Estimating Team and ascertain and assist with any discrepancies, assumptions or queries.
7. Engage with the supply chain and issue accurate enquiries and obtain compliant/competitive sub-contract quotations for elements of the tender works.
8. Contact the Engineer and/or Client when necessary for additional information regarding any queries.
9. Work to deadlines including the estimating programme, ensuring that models are finished within a specified time.
10. Pay close attention to detail to ensure all work is completed accurately.
Key Skills, Experience & Attributes
* Minimum one years experience working within a structural steelwork CAD role.
* Strong IT skills, good communication skills and the ability to adapt quickly to new systems.

* The ability to organise and prioritise workload.
* Friendly and approachable with a professional telephone manner.
* Good understanding and ability to operate Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
* Ability to work within allocated time scales to meet the requirements of our clients.
* Work well within a team to achieve targets set by the Bid Manager.
* Ambition to progress their career and desire to understand new methods of construction within the supply chain of the Business.
