The Department
The Risk & Compliance Partner is based in the London office and works together with four Risk Lawyers, the Head of Legal Risk, Head of Business Acceptance, Head of Conflicts, the Information Governance Manager, the Compliance Systems Manager, 18 Risk & Compliance Officers, two Risk and Compliance paralegals and two Conflicts Researchers. The Head of Business Acceptance is based in the London office and the Deputy/Team Leader for APAC and EMEA in Melbourne and in London respectively. The Risk & Compliance Officers are located in London and in several other global offices.
The Department works closely with the firm's General Counsel who is also the COLP and MLRO, as well as the Firm's PI Partner and others specialising in areas such as sanctions and data protection.
The Role
To assist the Risk, Compliance & Conflicts and Risk Legal teams globally in providing practice support to our offices on all aspects of risk, regulatory compliance and conflicts.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assisting the Risk & Compliance Officers in general daily tasks
2. Assisting the Risk Legal team with research and other ad hoc tasks
3. Company and PEPs and Sanctions database searches
4. Tracking progress of client engagement terms
5. Assisting with organising and trancing sanctions updates and monitor the relevant internal mailbox
6. Ensuring systems data integrity by ensuring completion of correct matter inception steps
7. Auditing files to check compliance with firm policy, legal and regulatory requirements as well as being aware of reputational and commercial implications, and providing practical, commercial advice where appropriate
8. Compliance reporting, assisting in the production of spreadsheets to monitor client and matter inception process status. Help run weekly/monthly reports
9. Checking that fee estimates, costs benefit analyses and time limits have been updated
10. Ensuring that matter closure procedures have been completed
11. Data cleansing/integrity for databases in preparation for software upgrades
12. Will and deeds cataloguing and database
13. Any other ad hoc task as may be required.
Key Skills & Experience Required
1. Law degree or equivalent
2. A minimum of six months' experience within a law firm
3. Excellent communication skills
4. The ability to work in an environment where quality output is paramount
5. Analytical and organisational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
6. Strong attention to detail and proven ability to handle confidential information in a professional and discreet manner
7. Demonstrated ability to work within a framework of regulatory compliance
8. The capability, after training if necessary, to identify conflicts and risk within a law firm
9. Resilience and the ability to develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships, while working both autonomously and as part of a global team
10. A high level of proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel
