Head of Communities & Equalities
Job description
Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent
Leicester is a vibrant city. It’s home to approximately 370,000 people, all with a rich diversity of different backgrounds, beliefs, faiths, and characteristics. More than ever, it is important to ensure the council does everything it can to be understanding and appreciative of the communities we serve.
We believe that knowing more about and being better connected into those communities, their characteristics, backgrounds, outlooks, and life experiences will help us to better support peoples’ needs, both as a council and an employer.
With an organisational culture that celebrates our differences, we are proud of the work we have done to create an inclusive environment, achieve better representation across the organisation and improve outcomes for our people. Working closely with partners and communities, we strive to ensure we are a confident and connected city.
Join us to provide a strong, visible, and proactive leadership approach to understanding and building stronger communities, delivering the Council’s Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) strategy and objectives, and to put in place our connected communities vision.
Reporting directly to the Director of Corporate Services, you’ll work at both an operational and strategic level to effectively network and manage stakeholders. Understanding our public sector equality duty, you’ll act as an advocate for and influencer of an inclusive internal and external culture.
With a strong track record of partnership working, you’ll build positive connections between communities, agencies, voluntary bodies, and statutory authorities. You’ll be able to recognise the benefits of diversity and having a workforce that is resilient and adaptable, to put the Council in the best possible place to meet the challenges and opportunities ahead.
Passionate, dedicated, and motivated, you’ll have a good understanding of the value of appreciative EDI practices and the law, be able to put in place engagement activities, and will drive our commitment to keep up-to-date knowledge, understanding, and connection with Leicester’s settled and new & emerging communities.
