We have an exciting opportunity for a Nurse to work with Avon Partnership Occupational Health Service, in a developmental post.
This post will offer the opportunity to gain experience within the Screening Nurse role, with progression into a Band 6 role following completion of the 12 month Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) Degree, studying at the University of the West of England.
We are an NHS Occupational Health service hosted by UHBW, in partnership with North Bristol Trust & Sirona Care & Health. We provide a specialist service to the local health community in Bristol, North Somerset & South Gloucestershire as well as providing services to other private and public sector organisations in the local & surrounding areas.

As a member of the occupational health team, you will be required to provide an occupational health surveillance, screening, telephone advice and immunisation service under the direction of the Nurse specialist/Lead Nurse, having freedom to act within the policies & practice of the Partnership. You will provide a service of excellence, which is primarily responsible for meeting the needs of Trust employees, but also external contracts from both the private & public sector.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
To carry out the following using the skills and knowledge gained after appropriate training, assessment, experience and abiding by Partnership processes, Trust policies, Patient Group Directives and service level agreements: -
Occupational immunisation programmes
To maintain and the promotion of occupational immunisations.
Venepuncture
To undertake venepuncture after appropriate training, assessment and experience in relation to a variety of clinical/client needs
Management of Contaminated Sharps Injuries, Bodily Fluid Exposure
To advise employees following contaminated sharps injury or bodily fluid exposure, undertaking a risk assessment and advising on the appropriate action in line with Partnership protocols.
Health surveillance programmes
To participate in health surveillance programmes after appropriate training and experience, across NHS Trust sites and external contracts, in line with HSE regulation and guidance, Trust Policy and Partnership processes.
Screening programmes
To participate in screening programmes for both NHS and external contracts, in line with Partnership processes, Trust policies and other related legislation and guidance after appropriate training has been given.
