This is a fantastic opportunity for a Service Desk Apprentice to work as part of an internal IT team and who is confident in building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders. We’ve recently invested £11 million in advanced technology and colleague amenities, making it one of the most advanced food manufacturing facilities in the UK.
Purpose of the role
As a key member of the IT Service Desk, the Apprentice will help with all IT support related issues, assisting the Service Desk Technicians and Analysts.
The Service Desk Team operate in a traditional tiered service desk structure designed around the ITIL framework and the Apprentice will perform general duties across the remit of the Service Desk Activities.
Your key responsibilities will include:
1. Answer telephone calls in a professional, confident, and timely manner
2. Learn to log, categorize, and track incoming IT tickets
3. Assist users with basic technical inquiries via phone, email, web portal, and in person
4. Shadow experienced team members to develop troubleshooting skills
5. Contribute to maintaining the service desk knowledge base
6. Participate in regular training sessions and self-study activities
7. Support basic IT system administration tasks
What you’ll need to be successful:
8. Good general education with strong numeracy and literacy skills
9. Basic computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Windows
10. Demonstratable communication skills, both written and verbal
11. Problem-solving aptitude and logical thinking
12. Genuine interest in technology and IT systems
13. Previous customer service experience (desirable)
14. Basic understanding of computer hardware and software (desirable)
15. IT-related qualifications or courses (e.g., GCSE Computing, IT BTec) (desirable)
