Job Description:
Are you passionate about supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Do you have experience working 1:1 with SEN children and are able to be firm but fair in your approach? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join a dedicated team at a school in Birmingham.
We are seeking a motivated, empathetic, and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to work with a student who requires additional support in their learning journey. The ideal candidate will be experienced in working with SEN children, using strategies such as "Now and Next" to help students focus and stay engaged.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide 1:1 support for a child with SEN needs, ensuring that they are able to engage in lessons and participate fully in school life.
2. Use the Now and Next approach to help structure and guide the student's activities and routines.
3. Create a calm, nurturing, and inclusive environment to support the child's emotional, social, and academic development.
4. Monitor the child's progress and work closely with the class teacher and SEN Co to implement appropriate strategies and interventions.
5. Support the child with both their academic and behavioural development, using positive reinforcement and clear boundaries.
6. Encourage independence and self-confidence in the child by promoting and celebrating their achievements.
Key Skills & Experience:
1. Previous experience working with children with SEN, ideally in a 1:1 capacity.
2. Knowledge and experience of using Now and Next strategies to support learning.
3. A firm but fair approach to managing behaviour and supporting children in their learning.
4. Ability to work effectively with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. A calm, patient, and compassionate nature with a strong commitment to helping children thrive.
7. A relevant qualification in education, child development, or SEN is desirable but not essential.
