There is a current opportunity for an experienced investigator or regulator to join HSE’s Building Safety Division. As part of the Government’s response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy, HSE established and is continuing to grow and develop the new Building Safety Regulator (BSR) under the Building Safety Act 2022.
Job description
As an Investigator with HSE’s Building Safety Division you will work as part of a team that undertakes proportionate investigations and enforcement into potential breaches of the Building Safety Act 2022 and other relevant legislation.
Key responsibilities:
1. Identify, gather and sift evidence, and where necessary obtain, plan and execute searches of premises under warrant or statutory provision.
2. Record, retain and review material to comply with disclosure responsibilities under the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act 1996 (CPIA).
3. Develop and implement strategies for interviewing victims, witnesses and suspects (under caution) in line with the principles of achieving best evidence and the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.
4. Critically analyse complex information to make accountable and well-reasoned decisions or recommendations.
5. Prepare and submit files to decision-makers, including to HSE prosecutors for charging decisions or tribunal hearings.
6. Effectively manage own case work and develop appropriate strategies aligned to investigative objectives.
7. Attend court to give evidence and support prosecutors throughout criminal proceedings or tribunals.
8. Provide victims and witnesses with support throughout the investigation process ensuring they are kept up to date and any identified risks are effectively managed.
9. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and problem-solve through negotiation and communication.
