Design and Technology at Skinners’ forms a critical part in both our well-established STEM curriculum and as a discrete department at Key Stages 4 and 5.
We are looking for a part-time (0.5-0.6 FTE), talented and enthusiastic teacher with a passion for design, ready to join this increasingly impressive department. The successful applicant will also have the prospect of teaching highly motivated and academically accomplished students throughout the key stages. A good number are successful in achieving Smallpiece Trust placements and Arkwright Scholarships, as well as continuing to study Design or Engineering at university, including at Oxbridge.
The DT department currently comprises three specialist teachers and is supported by a dedicated DT technician. DT forms an integral part of the STEM curriculum at Key Stage 3. This curriculum thrives on co-ordinated links with Maths, Art, Computing and Science departments. Specialist areas involve product design, graphic design, resistant materials and food technology. DT is offered as both a GCSE and A-level subject: numbers are growing, with two or three groups at GCSE and one large group at A level. Results in 2024 saw 83% of grades at A*-B at A level (89% in 2023) and 60% of grades at 9-7 at GCSE (70% in 2023).Most teaching takes place in a dedicated workshop and an adjacent multi-purpose DT room, each equipped with a range of first-class DT facilities. Plans are in place for a second ‘soft workshop’ for KS3.
